First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at League of Conservation Voters.
Director
The interview process involved 3.5 interviews and a brief assignment. It started with a phone screen, followed by a panel interview, then a writing assignment tailored to the role. There was also a short meeting with HR, and then the final round. They were open about the process and let me know what to expect in each round, and it was a really thorough process.
- How do you keep up with political events?
- Tell me about your commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and anti-racism.
Government Affairs & Advocacy Specialist
The interview was pretty standard, though a bit strange since it was a Zoom call but with no camera. The questions were basic and didn't give much room to expand. I didn't get the job, but they did suggest I keep working with them in my current role. It felt like a weird way to try and help the organization after not offering me the position. When I asked for feedback, I never heard back. I wouldn't suggest going through this process; it seemed arbitrary. I've also heard from others that it's not a great place to work.
- Could you tell me about your background?
- What makes you want to work for this organization?
- In your past roles, how have you advanced LCV policies?
Field Director
I had a video call with several management team members. It was a 30-minute interview, and they asked me to keep my camera off. Before we started, the team members introduced themselves, and I got to ask some questions. It was a pretty relaxed process. The questions were pretty standard for a field role, like 'tell us about yourself' and 'what are your strengths/weaknesses'. Overall, it was a good experience.
- Can you share an instance where you encountered and overcame a significant challenge?
- What do you consider to be your greatest strengths?
- What are your most significant weaknesses?
Advocate
It took 3.5 months. They were slow to give updates on my application status. All the interviews were the same set of questions for everyone. The focus was entirely on DEI, not government affairs. When they contacted my references, it felt like an interview for them too, with a list of questions they didn't share beforehand. They didn't explain why I wasn't selected. I wouldn't suggest going through this.
- Can you share how you've made DEI a priority in your decision-making?
