The interview starts with a panel introducing themselves and giving a quick rundown of your research background. They'll ask about scientific problem-solving, how you work with others, and how you fit with the Lab's goals. After that, you'll give a technical presentation, then chat with the people you'd be working with. The whole thing finishes up with tours of the facilities and time for you to ask any questions you have, and for them to answer too.

Had an initial phone call, then a panel interview with two managers scheduled within 2 weeks. Most questions were about my resume, some situational ones about procurement and vendor management, and a few behavioral questions.

I applied in late September 2024 and went through the following process: Initial Phone Interview (1st week of Nov 2024): Discussed experiences and project matching with the PI. Panel Interview (2 weeks later): 1-hour interview with a 30-minute presentation, followed by technical and HR questions from a panel of 6-7 members. Post-Interview Process Verification and Documentation (around Dec 10th 2024) Final Offer (Dec 17th 2024) Background Check and Formalities (after offer acceptance). Know the project: Read as much as possible and prepare to match your skills and experiences. Prepare a strong presentation: Clearly communicate your work and ideas. Be patient: The process can be lengthy, so persistence is key.

I had applied for a few EH&S jobs, but the recruiter thought I'd be a good fit for this one. After a quick chat, I had two more interviews with a group of people from the team, which was great for understanding the role. The second interview included some really basic chemistry questions. For the third interview, I had to give a 20-minute presentation about my experience related to the job. What went wrong? Two things. First, they rescheduled my third interview just two days before. Second, and more importantly, after the third interview, they said I'd hear back soon. A week later, still nothing, so I asked the recruiter. They said they were deciding but suggested we talk about another EH&S job I applied for. Another week passed, I asked for an update on both, and heard nothing. Another week went by, still silence. It's ridiculous to make someone prepare a technical presentation and do two long panel interviews, then not even tell them they didn't get the job.

Confirmed questions2 questions
  • Can you describe times you used your chemistry knowledge for waste or environmental management?
  • Tell me about a difficult technical problem you solved in your last or current job.
