First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Las Vegas Sands.
Software Engineer
It began with a recruiter reaching out for an initial phone screen. We had a standard chat about my background, my current gig, and what I'm looking for next. They also gave me some high-level info on the team, what the role involves, and the interview schedule. Next was an interview with a Principal Software Engineer. This was a technical deep-dive where we talked about my recent projects, focusing on frontend architecture and modern React. Then, I had a round with the Hiring Manager. This interview mixed technical questions with mentorship-focused ones, including strategies for mentoring and onboarding junior devs.
- If a junior engineer you've just onboarded says they're unsure how to proceed with a task you've assigned, how would you, as their mentor, address this?
IT Manager
We had a few rounds of interviews, beginning with a recruiter chat, followed by a meeting with the manager, and then a panel interview. The panel interview felt a bit off, mainly due to one director who repeated a behavioral question. They seemed quite annoyed with me, so it wasn't a good vibe. I was also asked to present some solutions and give a presentation, but I didn't get any feedback on that. Honestly, it was just a bad experience all around. About two days after that, I got an automated rejection email, and after I asked for feedback, they said the position was actually canceled.
- Behavioral questions were asked.
- Technical questions were asked.
Cyber Security Analyst
Applied in late November, HR reached out in March to set up a virtual interview. It included 2 senior SOC members and an HR person. The HR person asked standard questions, while the SOC members covered personality and technical aspects. The technical questions were basic if you know cybersecurity fundamentals like the CIA triad, IDS/IPS, logs, network architecture, and common attacks. Be ready for brainteasers too, so study the common ones. The interview was straightforward, but the atmosphere was quite dry and not very "high-tech."
- How would you set up a new rule in an IDS if you saw indicators of compromise?
- Can you explain the difference between encryption, encoding, and hashing?
- Could you describe your home network setup?
Lifeguard
The interview was pretty casual, mostly just talking. It was about 10-15 minutes long with two people interviewing me. They asked some general questions, and then there were 5 questions specifically about lifeguarding, AED, and CPR at the end. They seemed to care most about my personality and if I had experience at pools. It felt more like a conversation than a strict Q&A.
- Can you tell me about a significant accomplishment?
- What is the correct ratio of breaths to compressions for CPR?
- Describe a situation where you had to handle a dissatisfied guest or customer.
