First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Laporte.
Engineer
I went through three interview processes with this company over three years. The first time, I spoke with the Head of HR and then had a technical interview. It seemed to go fine, but I never heard back. I even reached out to HR for feedback, but got nothing. For a two-interview process, this silence is pretty bad. Years later, I interviewed for a different role. It was the same thing: first an HR meeting, then no follow-up. Honestly, at this point, their hiring process seems really disorganized and unprofessional. Even a quick 'no' would be respectful of my time. Plus, the pay they offer doesn't look great, which might be why they ghost candidates after the HR chat.
- Can you walk me through your experience and career path?
- Describe the projects you have worked on.
- How does your background fit with this position?
Electrical Engineer
It was a mix of technical and soft skills questions. HR interviewed me first, then a Senior Engineer or discipline lead. They asked about my past experiences and my knowledge/understanding of code.
- Can you describe common electrical systems in buildings, like lighting and fire alarms, and mention relevant codes?
HR Manager
The interview started a bit late. They asked me multiple times if I could handle certain tasks, which seemed a bit redundant given I was applying for the role. The first interview lasted about 1.5 hours.
- Would you be comfortable with the prospect of building something out from scratch?
Junior Engineer
The first interview was with HR, and it was a team call. They asked questions about my personality, pretty much the most common questions asked in a Google interview. The second round was with two engineers. Again, they asked questions about teamwork and the projects I've done. I just need to know my projects and the technical details because they asked for clarifications and details about my academic projects.
- Do you know how to do PFD?
- Have you ever done a P&ID?
- Were you ever in a situation where you had to work with a difficult person?
