First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Lanier Technical College.
Adjunct Instructor
I interviewed with a panel of about 5 or 6 instructors. They asked questions one after another, and I also had to do a teaching part.
- How would you handle a student who is unhappy about their grade?
Instructor
First, there was a presentation based on a prompt. Then, there was a Q/A regarding experience, hypotheticals, and preferences. Next, an informative discussion about work culture, expectations, and potential for advancement. Finally, a review of the presentation and classroom expectations, including travel requirements.
- Can you share your experience working with students from diverse backgrounds?
Program Director
I went for the interview for the job after I had been doing it for 1 year and they told me I was not qualified. When I stopped doing the administrative duties and just concentrated on teaching students only as deadlines for reports approached I was offered the job and accepted it thinking I had gained the trust and support of the Dean.
- What makes you the most suitable candidate?
Instructional Support Teacher
When I was hired for this part-time role, I had an interview with the lead instructor. After that, it took about a month to get all the college paperwork sorted. Just a heads-up, they pay monthly and hold your first paycheck for two months, which is pretty wild.
- Demonstrate how to perform and teach addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of fractions and mixed numbers.
- Describe the process of writing a five-paragraph essay for a student.
