First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Lane Powell.
Associate Attorney
I sent my resume and had one meeting with the department head. Getting the interview scheduled was a hassle; they rescheduled me three times, and the interviewer showed up 20 minutes late without an apology, which made me feel like their time was more important than mine.

Associate Attorney
So, Lane Powell's interview process for attorneys is pretty standard. You meet with a bunch of lawyers, like, for about 30 minutes each, all in one day. They actually give you the names of the lawyers beforehand, so I could look them up. They really vet their candidates. I had a video call with a partner, which was a bit weird but fine. I've done tons of these day-long interviews before, but this one was super draining. Maybe it was the long lunch, or the extra interviews tacked on at the end, but it was tough. The lawyers asked real, substantive questions. I mean, I'd do the same, but I don't love answering them in areas I'm not super familiar with. The lunch itself was good, I got along with the lawyer, but it could have been awkward with only one host.
- The interviewers asked substantive questions focused on the practice areas that the open position would fulfill.
Shareholder
I met first with the department head for a screening interview. After that, I had a full day of interviews with Portland shareholders. Following those interviews, I traveled to Seattle and met with several Seattle area shareholders in my area of expertise, as well as senior management. Once the interviews were completely I was given an offer. The process was not difficult, but it was very thorough. The fact that it was thorough was important to me, because that told me the firm vetted potential hires seriously.
- What book of business are you bringing with you?
