Graduate Engineer Trainee
So basically, first they check your GPA and resume for initial selection. Then there was an online assessment, which was specific to my engineering branch. Mine covered electromechanical systems, industrial instrumentation, electrical machines, and a bit of control systems. After that, I had a personal interview.
- Can you give practical examples of open and closed control system configurations?
- What do you know about industrial instrumentation, and which sensors do you find most interesting?
- Tell me about any field in general electronics that you like.

So the selection process starts with an aptitude test. After that, there's a technical interview. And then, finally, the HR round. It's a step-by-step thing to check if you've got the skills and qualifications.
- Can you explain automobile concepts?
- What about chassis concepts?
- Tell me about strength of materials.
Post Graduate Engineering Trainee
Interview was set up in the L&T office in Mumbai. Fresh postgraduates in electrical engineering from VNIT, Nagpur were invited to Mumbai, and their travel costs were covered. We had a direct interview, which was an online meeting with interviewers who were not physically present. It seemed like two interviewers were visible to us, but a whole team was off-screen. The questions felt like undergraduate level, mostly about power systems, which wasn't my main area, but they likely wanted someone with a power systems background for field work. They provided us with good meals in their canteens while we were on campus. The two interviewers, a man and a woman, seemed quite smug when asking questions and listening to answers. I think this showed institutional bias against postgraduates in the Indian core sector. Ultimately, one guy and one lady from power systems and power electronics were selected. Both the guy and the lady from power electronics ended up declining the job. Looking back, the compensation wasn't great either.
- Can you explain what a valve is?
Diploma Engineer Trainee
First they asked about my hobbies and related questions. After that, the technical round began, and after that, they gave me feedback. They asked if I was comfortable moving to another city or state. They also asked me to prove why they should hire me over others.
- Tell me more about your hobbies.
- Would you be okay with relocating to a different city or state?
- Convince me to hire you over other candidates.
