First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Kyrene School District.
Resource Teacher
I applied and then got a call to set up an in-person interview, which happened about a week later. I met with the school's principal for the interview, and the questions were pretty typical. They offered me the job, and I accepted it back then.
- What's your experience been like working with children?
- Can you describe how you'd manage behavior scenarios?
Teacher
The interview process involves scripted questions, and they won't ask follow-ups based on your answers since they have to stick to the standard questions. You'll encounter general questions about your teaching knowledge and situational scenarios covering various aspects of a teacher's job.
- Can you share your teaching experience?
Program Coordinator
The interview process is really biased and never about actual skills, it's all about who they like, who they know, and who flatters them the most. It's super corrupt. Someone reported it to HR, and when COVID hit, that person was suddenly fired. HR and the district didn't do anything to stop the corruption and kept their friends in power. I really enjoyed the job itself, but hated the office politics.
- Considering your qualifications and the fact you came highly recommended by people within the organization, how do you see yourself fitting into this role?
- What challenges have you faced or observed regarding internal promotion processes for existing employees in this company, and how have you approached them?
- Can you elaborate on the difficulties of internal promotion opportunities for current employees?
Elementary Teacher
I had two interviews at two different schools, and they were quite different. The first interview had the principal and a teacher from each grade level interviewing me. At this school, they actually printed out the interview questions for me to follow along, which was pretty nice. They asked me about 12 questions. The second interview, at a different school, involved the principal and vice principal, and they asked around 10 questions. They totally didn't follow up with me after that second interview, even though they said they'd be in touch either way.
- What's your approach to handling a parent who is upset?
- How would you utilize data and assessments to track student progress?
