I was found on Dribbble by KForce, a recruiting company, for a contract-to-full-time role at Stream. First, I had phone interviews with KForce about my background and skills. Then, Stream passed my info and set up an in-person meeting with their Marketing Director and a Senior Designer. We talked about my resume, portfolio, work style, and how I'd fit the company culture. They liked my portfolio already, so culture fit was key. Soon after, I got the 90-day contract-to-hire offer. After 3 months, they checked in about going full-time, I said yes, and they extended the full-time offer. Stream has great benefits and focuses on a positive, flexible, and fun workplace culture. The contract-to-hire model was good because it let both sides see if it was a fit. It ensures a good office culture and that employees are part of something more than just a job. The whole process was smooth and comfortable.

I applied online and a week later the recruiter called to schedule a quick chat. After I learned about the company, I was asked if I could interview. A few days later, I went in to meet the general counsel. The recruiter described the company as supportive, but I didn't get that vibe during the interview. About 20 minutes in, she started getting up without warning, looked annoyed, and then realized she was being rude. She answered my questions like they were an inconvenience and rushed me out the door, leaving me with a bad feeling. Whatever this company claims to be, it wasn't reflected in the interview. If you're looking for a place where a husband/wife dynamic is a highlight, this company might be for you.

A recruiter contacted me about this position and scheduled a phone interview. She mentioned she didn't want to waste my time. I was interviewing for a trainer role, and although I'm currently a manager at a big bank, I clarified that I was seeking a transition into L&D. She then provided a case study and requested a PowerPoint presentation for the next interview. A week later, I had an in-person interview. I arrived 15 minutes early and waited. The recruiter was 30 minutes late, showed up in casual attire, and was eating. She brought me to the conference room, explaining that the hiring manager was out of town but another trainer would join. The interview started with the trainer. It seemed to be going well, but 15 minutes before it ended, she left abruptly, asking the trainer to conclude the interview. She wished me well and departed. The trainer and I continued chatting, and he gave me a tour, expressing that I'd be a great fit. During the tour, he made some unprofessional comments about the team. The interview concluded, and he said he'd advocate for me, even attempting a hug. A week later, I followed up for an update but received no response. Another week passed with no word. I called the recruiter, and she said the hiring manager had returned and she'd follow up, promising a call by the end of the day, which never came. Three more weeks passed, and I messaged to assume it was a no-go. Four days later, I received a rejection letter for a role I hadn't even interviewed for. I clarified the mistake, and after four hours, she sent a revised rejection for the correct position. It's safe to say this experience, while not leading to a job I particularly wanted, was noteworthy for its unprofessionalism.

I went in and had a casual chat with my potential bosses. It was the most relaxed interview I've ever had. They asked a mix of serious and fun questions, covering both work and personal interests. This made me realize it was the kind of place I was looking for.
