First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Kutztown University.
Graduate Assistant
Because this was a kind of promotion, I found out about the job really early. I sent in my application and resume. They scheduled the interview pretty fast. The interview itself was nice. It lasted about an hour, and I was surprised to be interviewed by the director and two associate directors from the department. They started by introducing themselves. Then the lead talked about the job and more about the university. They first asked me to introduce myself and share some background information. Some questions came up as they looked over my resume. Most of the questions were typical interview questions, like asking about my openness to diversity, my ability to multitask (and asking for an example), and my proficiency with computer programs like Excel, Access, Word, SAS, and PeopleSoft.
- Could you tell us about yourself and your background?
- How do you feel about diversity?
- Are you capable of multitasking?
Faculty
I was hired after submitting a package of materials (references, transcripts, work samples) which took about three weeks to get ready, after applying through the KU employment site. Then I got an email asking if I was available for an interview. I first met with the Associate Dean and also visited the Diversity Office and Human Resources. After that, I had a brief 15-minute chat with the Dean, followed by a 2-hour meeting with a group of faculty members who were the hiring committee. During this meeting, I showed my work and answered questions about how I teach, assess students, and manage a classroom. It was a good experience because I was prepared and felt good about my background and presentation, and we seemed to get along well.
- How would you approach a student who is disengaged and not attending classes?
- Which three emerging media do you think are most crucial in advertising right now?
Computer Generalist
Had a short 10-minute chat with the ResNet coordinator. We covered basic computer and networking stuff and talked about your experience with Windows and Mac. We also went over what the job entails at the help desk. The whole process felt pretty relaxed and simple. Got the offer within a month, with a start date at the beginning of the next school year.
- How do you find the IP address on a Windows machine?
Assistant Professor
The interview process was friendly and organized, feeling professional but not overly intense. It seemed pretty standard compared to other schools, and definitely less demanding than some others I've interviewed at. It's a good program, so they want to make sure you can perform.
- How would you handle classroom behavioral issues?
