& Process

Kuali's mission and values really caught my eye. They use a third-party portal for some screening questions. I spent about two hours on these, six days after the job was posted. But, the portal wouldn't let me submit because the job was taken down while I was answering! It happens. I called their main number to see if I could still submit and left a message, but nobody's called back in a couple of weeks. I even emailed the CEO and recruiter, but no response. It was just a terrible experience. The worst part is, the screening questions were really good and I enjoyed answering them – I felt like I was a perfect fit! Oh well.

I applied online and had a phone screen with someone. It seemed like maybe they were new to interviewing or something because there were a lot of long pauses, and I don't think they understood me, even after I explained things a few times. I was pretty surprised to get a rejection email, especially since I met all the requirements, including extra ones. I asked for more feedback but didn't get any.

I sent in my application online in July and then totally forgot about it until the CTO reached out in mid-August. We set up our first phone chat, which went well. He asked about my current role, chatted about the company, and inquired about my interest in joining. He mentioned he had other candidates to see and asked for my patience. I followed up two weeks later. He apologized for the delay and sent over a coding challenge with 5 really interesting, everyday-problem style questions. After that, I had an in-person interview with him and a senior engineer. About 30 minutes was spent discussing my background, followed by a coding assessment where I had to identify errors in about 5 problems. The overall experience was great, and the interviewers were very approachable.

The interview process was great. Even though it took over a month for Kuali to get back to me after I applied, I figured it was due to the holidays and how thorough they are with their interviews. I had an interview with Brunson, which was the first round but got pretty technical. I thought it went well, but I was missing some key skills. They told me they weren't moving forward with my application, so I asked why. They actually told me where I fell short, which is super helpful for my own learning, and I really appreciate that. They really went the extra mile throughout the process, even after deciding I wasn't the right fit. It's rare to get that kind of feedback, and I'm very grateful.
