First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Kroger Distribution Center.
Manager
The interview process was brief, although it felt like I was overqualified for the role. It's worth noting that Memphis experiences high employee turnover, which might be related to the city itself. Management appears to be under stress, leading to frequent departures from the area.
- Can you tell me about your experience and if you are willing to work long hours?
Intern
The process was about 45 minutes long. They stressed the importance of the STAR method for answering questions. Initially, there were some basic behavioral questions relevant to a distribution center role. Then, they asked about my previous experience as it related to the job application. I was able to complete the interview via Zoom because I was remote, although the actual position would have been in-person.
- Can you share an instance where you had to deal with a challenging coworker or client? What steps did you take to resolve the situation and complete your duties or fix the issue?
Cashier
I received an email to schedule an interview, and I set a time to go in. I met with the hiring manager and was offered the job on the spot. I was told my hourly pay, how pay increases work, and about the benefits. I picked my shift hours. We also discussed helping out in other departments during busy periods. I was told I'd hear back about orientation within a week to a week and a half. I never heard back, so I tried calling the manager who hired me a week later and left a message. Eventually, I got through, and they said they didn't know what happened, and I wasn't in their system. They told me to reapply online and call back in a few days. I did that and called three days later but couldn't reach the manager. I finally spoke to another HR hiring manager, explained what happened, and they said that was happening to a few people who were disappearing from the system. She took my name and number and said she'd have the manager call me and look me up in the system. I never got a call and gave up. I had turned down another job offer just two days after my interview because I was told I was hired and had the job with Kroger. It was a nightmare, and they treat people poorly. How can you tell someone they aren't in the system after they were already hired at the interview?

Operations Manager
It was a pretty laid-back interview, felt pretty informal with a couple of rounds. They asked about my background, why I wanted to work for Kroger, and my business sense. It was a pretty average interview process overall, and not too hard to get through.
- What's your leadership style?
- Can you share an instance where you significantly contributed to cost reduction?
- What makes you want to work for Kroger?
