Technical Author
I applied via a recruitment agency that set up an in-person interview. It lasted about 2 hours. I met most of the team I'd be working with (5 people) and got a tour. They said I'd know by the start of the next week. HR emailed 3 days later asking me to do a short 30-min test (which felt too short, but they let me extend it). I didn't hear back until the week after they said they would (so, a week late) with an offer.
- Can you provide examples of units for pressure?
- Can you describe your understanding of vacuums?
- What is your knowledge of electronics?
Design Engineer
Had a formal chat with a manager and 2 engineers, they were really focused on the actual work and skills needed. They gave me a short test and asked some questions about how I handle different situations. Then we did a quick tour of the place. I got the vibe that if you didn't know the exact answers to the technical stuff, they weren't really interested. But, if you're super familiar with their specific kind of work, you could probably do great here. Also, even though there's potential to move up, it looks like it takes quite a while (like 3-4 years for a change in role), and the pay is lower than what's typical for this field in the area (by about 5k).
- What are your thoughts on analogue circuits?
- Can you discuss digital circuits?
- What do you know about digital communications?
Test and Installation Engineer
It was a strange interview process, so don't expect the usual interview questions. They get straight into technical questions about the equipment and want to know the depth of your knowledge. Overall, it was a good interview; they gave me the opportunity to have a look around the premises and show me some of the equipment they use.
- Can you identify this piece of equipment and explain how it's installed onto the machines?
