& Process

It starts with some basic questions about your character and how you behave. Then, you'll have a proofreading task that should take about 20 minutes. This involves content creation using sample materials, making reading vocabulary worksheets, and also grammar and writing tasks. They'll also ask about your background in R&D and any teaching experience you have.

They first went over my resume with me. Then, they had a chat with me, asking about my motivations for choosing this place and my credentials. Since I'm overqualified, they were curious about my reasons (mostly related to my recent move to the city). After that, they explained the job and the organization, covering training, expectations, and pay. I got to ask some questions too. They showed me around briefly and then asked if I was interested and about possible training dates. They mentioned they'd let me know their decision in the coming days.

I first connected with a recruiter (Reach to Teach) and they quickly set me up with an interview with the school branch within a few days. I had the interview over Skype during my lunch break from my current job. There were some internet issues, so I had to call back a few times, but the interviewer was really nice and understood. We talked for about 40 minutes total, including the time I was trying to sort out the connection. He asked about my past teaching experience and what I was looking for at Poly. It was a pretty laid-back chat, more of a conversation about my experiences as a teacher and what the interviewer had experienced at Poly. I also had plenty of chances to ask my own questions and get details. Within two days after the interview, I got an email offering me the job with a better salary than I'd asked for.

I interviewed with the school admin at Anyang. The interview was about 30 minutes and pretty easy. The admin was nice and honest about the hours. She offered me 2.8 million KRW but said I'd be working 10 hour days. She then said if she paid me 3.0 million KRW, she'd expect more work. I wasn't going to accept, but I stayed professional and said I was open to negotiating salary. The recruiter messaged me on KakaoTalk the next day with scare tactics like 'they haven't made an offer due to your salary requirements,' expecting me to accept 2.8 million KRW for long hours. Instead, I thanked the recruiter and said I wouldn't interview with any more schools they listed. I already had two offers for 3.0 million KRW with 9-6 hour days and was just exploring options. It was funny how the recruiter and admin thought they could trick me. Don't let them low ball you; they need teachers.
