First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Knotel.
FOH
There were three interview rounds. First, I talked with the FOH manager. Then, I had an interview with the workspace manager. Finally, I met with the operations manager. The questions were pretty straightforward, and they mostly wanted to see my personality shine through, as that seemed more important to them than my actual experience.
- Given a specific scenario, what actions would you take and how would you manage the situation?
Technology Lead
Started with 2 initial phone calls, one with HR. Then went onsite to meet 4 people individually. Then completed a case study, which had 2 main questions and 4 subsections each, taking about 8-10 hours total. After that, returned onsite to meet 5 more people separately. Then had a phone interview. Following that, another onsite visit to meet a leadership team member for 15 minutes, where the same questions were asked. Finally, a phone interview in their office with the COO, who was in San Francisco; I traveled to the city for this interview on my cell in their conference room. A total of 14 interviews and a case study were completed. They then decided to not hire for the position, feeling it wasn't the right time.
- Tell me about key career events that are relevant to the job description.
- Which people skills do you find challenging?
Operations
So there were a bunch of one-on-one chats and also a home test thing. We really dug into the details of the job, my technical chops, and what I'm into career-wise. Everyone, from the recruiter to the other folks, was really on top of things and got back to me fast with updates or feedback. My only hang-up is that it felt like a lot of time for someone who's just checking things out. That home test especially ate up a good chunk of time. Like, I get it, it's a solid way to see what I can do and my experience, but maybe it could be tweaked to not take quite so much time.
- Can you tell me about your background and how it aligns with this company?
- What are your career interests?
Director of Real Estate
This hiring process was really unprofessional and disrespectful. They had me complete a basic personality assessment and a detailed case study. After that, there was radio silence for weeks with no updates. I reached out multiple times, and finally, they told me it wasn't a good fit for the team, despite me never having a chance to talk to anyone on the team. It was the worst experience I've ever had with a hiring team.
