The interview for the engineering intern position at Knauf was a close and professional experience. It began with a warm welcome from the HR team, who briefly explained the company culture. Then, a plant engineer asked about basic knowledge of materials, especially plasterboard, and how I would face certain technical challenges. They were also interested in my teamwork style and how I approach learning in practical settings. More than looking for perfect answers, they valued attitude, curiosity, and the desire to grow. It was motivating to see how much they value the development of young talent.

So I had this interview with Knauf Digital, it was a few steps and included a case study. The first interview was good, but the second stage got me thinking about how they treat candidates. They had me analyze their live product, figure out five ways to improve it, and then tell them which was the most important. They gave me almost three weeks for this. I really put effort into it, thinking they would appreciate a good job. I presented this case study to two managers, and one was taking notes to give to his team. A couple days later, I got rejected with no real feedback. I asked for feedback, and they said they couldn't give any due to 'legal concerns' and that it 'could be anything.' The main problem wasn't the rejection, but the process itself: the case study and talking about my background were all in one meeting, with the managers acting as both interviewers and evaluators. This might be good for them, but for candidates, it's a lot of work with no clear benefit or learning. I'm not sure if I did free work for them, but I certainly wasted a lot of time.

After my resume and cover letter were screened, I had a virtual phone screening with HR. This was followed by a virtual technical interview with teammates. The next step was an in-person interview with the hiring manager. However, they interviewed someone else before me and picked that person without even conducting the scheduled interview with me. They also never called to cancel. So, my advice is to schedule interviews as early as possible.

I was interviewed for 4 rounds and the whole process took about 3.5 months. In the 4th interview, without any notice, no one showed up. Only an external human resource who offered me to apply for other positions. He had no idea whom I was going to meet and that I had other interviews before for this specific role. In the end I got no specific feedback and I was informed the reasons are confidential. The interview experience was good and inspiring but providing no feedback and lack of communication was not appreciated.
