Optical Engineer
The overall experience is nice and friendly but in order to pass it, you HAVE to be familiar with Spot Diagrams. Take notes now because they do not use Transverse Ray Plots so it is pretty surprising for students who did not learn spot diagrams in optics.
- Can you analyze the provided Spot Diagrams and identify the aberration?
- Describe the aberration shown in the Spot Diagrams below.
- Analyze the Spot Diagrams and describe what aberration it is.
Optical Engineer
Applied to KLA Tencor (Singapore). Got shortlisted and the interview was set up pretty quickly, though the whole process took a while because of covid. The three interviewers were really nice and easy to talk to. The interview was about an hour long. It was mostly technical stuff and checking my optics background. They asked a lot of technical questions but were patient. They also really talked about what the job requires and asked if I was planning to study more. There was also a sort of quiz to see how much I actually know about optics. I'm still waiting to hear back, they said it would be within a few weeks.
- Tell me about yourself.
- Can you talk about your previous experience in optics and any optics courses you've taken?
- Do you have any questions for us regarding your optics background or technical skills?
Optical Engineer
So first, they look at your resume and cover letter. Then, HR or the hiring manager figures out if you've got the skills and experience needed for the job.
- Tell me about your background in designing laser systems.
- Could you share an instance of a laser system you developed for either industrial or medical use?
