Mechanical Design Engineer
For this role, you should be familiar with the working principles of semiconductor fabrication and metrology. It would also be beneficial to prepare for questions about the working principles of electron microscopes and optical cameras. Behavioral questions will also be asked.
- Can you explain how a camera works?
Senior Mechanical Engineer
HR reached out and set up an interview with the Hiring Manager. Following that, I had a presentation and some 1-on-1 interviews. The people were nice and smart. It wasn't too bad for someone experienced. However, the job description only covered less than 5% of what they were actually looking for. Some topics they asked about, even the hiring team didn't seem to have much knowledge on, but they still asked. They mentioned they weren't expecting candidates to know everything. It turned out they were dealing with a really complex, non-linear problem with aggressive boundary conditions they needed solved. I didn't get the impression they wanted someone to solve it, but rather someone who could advise on how to solve it. I was rejected after 8 interviews because I didn't fit their profile. I wouldn't have even applied if the job description had been accurate from the start. HR wouldn't give me any feedback due to company policy.
- Can you discuss in detail FEA subjects, including structural and thermal aspects?
- What are your thoughts on heat pumps?
- Can you answer questions about phase change materials?
Mechanical Engineer
The interview process included an initial recruiter call, followed by a technical interview. The technical interview involved three questions focused on engineering problems and their solutions. The interviewer was disengaged and provided minimal feedback.
