Marketing Intern
The interview was quick and easy. I felt comfortable talking with the interviewer and they were personable. It was a casual conversation without added pressure, and I appreciated that. I'm glad they listened to me and were interested in the unique value I could bring to the team.
- Can you tell me about any trending marketing initiatives you've noticed and are interested in applying?
Director
I applied and a recruiter reached out to set up a virtual interview. It was a good chat, and she seemed really keen to learn about me. Interestingly, she asked for my questions right at the beginning instead of the end. It was about 25 minutes long. She said she'd pass my info to the hiring manager for the next steps. But then, no next steps happened. I offered my availability to meet the hiring manager three times, and each time I was told he was under the weather. I initially believed it, but then the recruiter sent an honest email explaining they were pausing interviews for the role because of sudden "organizational changes." That felt like a red flag, though I did appreciate her candor. She mentioned they'd resume soon and I should reapply. So, I reapplied about a month later and tried to reach out to her, only to find out she had left the company within that month! Crazy. Another red flag. I got a rejection email just ten minutes after applying, which makes no sense as I'd already passed the first screening. The job has been posted at least four times now, which suggests a lack of clear direction at the company.
- Could you tell me about yourself and your background in beauty or CPG?
AI Photo Retoucher
The interview itself went smoothly. The company is headquartered in LA, while the job location was posted as fully remote in Asia. What was truly disappointing was when the recruiter disclosed the salary: $1,500 USD/month for a full-time, 9-hours-a-day retoucher role that requires expert-level skills in Photoshop/Lightroom, 3+ years of photo retouching experience, and strong knowledge of AI-assisted editing tools. This is a massive undervaluation well below market rate and does not reflect the complexity of the role. Asia is not cheap labor. Location should never justify such a low offer, especially for highly skilled work that contributes directly to the brand’s creative output. Candidates who can integrate AI into creative workflows usually command higher pay — not lower. KITSCH, please reconsider how you value your teams globally. As someone who has supported your brand in the past, this experience was deeply disappointing.
- Describe a situation where you had to use both traditional photo retouching techniques and AI editing tools on a challenging project.
Retention Manager
The interview actually went well and I was happy to get an offer letter. But when I read the offer letter and the terms of work, they were so bad that I had to reject the offer. The main reasons were: 1. They offer only 6 days of PTO per year, and that too only after 3 months of satisfactory service. This is super frustrating, who can work happily with such low PTO? 2. The pay isn't as competitive as advertised and they expect 10 hour work days. They should match their pay to the work level they ask for. 3. The worst part is the termination clause - they can terminate your work agreement anytime, with or without cause, and with or without notice. This made me feel so insecure and uncared for. I wasn't expecting this from such an established company that talks about "workplace empowerment". 4. Finally, they expect you to install hubstaff on your laptop to monitor your productivity. While I don't mind monitoring, I dislike the idea of being tracked! Why not work based on KPIs? The offer letter made it clear that this company doesn't care about its employees, even though it's established and making 8-9 figures. I'm not sure what's stopping them, but I definitely don't recommend working here. If you have a better offer, take it.
- Can you share an example of a successful campaign and one that did not perform well?
