Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Kitestring Technical Services.
Software Engineer
The interview process involves problem solving with a couple of questions, then questions on your technology stack. You'll be speaking with a Technical Delivery Manager, who's usually pretty chill and cooperative. They're not trying to trip you up, just making sure a solid candidate gets put forward to their client.
- Can you sort an array of characters?
- What are the different kinds of dependency injection in Spring, and which do you like best and why?
- How would you go about creating different config files in Spring Boot, and then setting up the server to pick a specific one for testing or development?
Software Engineer
Applied for a Test Automation role with a Java background, they are looking for a strong Java programmer. It's a 3 step process. First, an online assessment. You can use the internet. It has multiple-choice questions, with 2 minutes per question, covering topics like design patterns and predicting code snippet outputs. Second, an online video interview over Skype via Kitestring. You'll need to write code snippets for given problems in a terminal and explain your logic and problem-solving approach. Third, an online video interview with the client, similar to the second step.
- Can you tell me about the singleton pattern and provide code for string palindrome and anagram checks?
- Could you explain the SOLID principles in Java, Dependency Injection, and Liskov's substitution principle? Also, what's the difference between checked and unchecked exceptions, and between an exception and an error? How does a HashMap work, and can you explain Hashtable? Is hashcode always unique? Lastly, what is the difference between ArrayList and LinkedList?
- Tell me about your experience with Test Automation Frameworks, how Jenkins works, and your regular tasks. Also, can you discuss TestNG, Maven, Cucumber, Appium, and POM frameworks? Explain the Cucumber framework. How do you handle window popups, browser popups, and alerts in Selenium? What's the difference between assert and verify, and between soft and hard asserts in Selenium?
Software Developer
I did a test online and then was told to do a face-to-face interview with the client. There were three interviewers, and they asked technical questions. Some questions I just answered verbally, but for others, I had to go up to the whiteboard and write out the solutions.
- Could you solve a logical problem and outline your solution?
