First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Kitchell.
Project Engineer
The interview process was pretty straightforward. The people were kind and approachable. The interview with the owner is separate, so be prepared for multiple interviews. It started with a phone interview with the recruiter. If they think you’re qualified, they give your resume to the hiring manager and you’re interviewed by them. And then, you’re interviewed by your direct manager.
- Can you tell me about your previous work experience?
- What were your responsibilities in those roles?
Intern
I first heard about Kitchell at my school's career fair. The rep there and I had a good chat and interview, and they sent my info to the hiring team in SF. After that, I had a 20-30 min chat with someone from HR. I thought it went well, and they said a hiring project manager would call me for an interview. I already had another offer with a month to decide, but I was still interested in Kitchell. The HR rep thought it wouldn't be an issue, but I never got a call from the project manager. I ended up accepting the other offer. I exchanged emails with the HR rep a bunch, and they kept saying I'd get an interview call, but it never happened. They couldn't even schedule one. It was a strange experience, and their hiring process seems inefficient.
- What school do you attend?
Office Specialist
I applied for the job on indeed.com and then had a 15-minute phone chat with HR. After that, I went to the office for a sit-down with the supervisor, which was nice and they explained the job duties and schedule. A few days later, I went back to talk to the HR person again and also the receptionist, since helping the receptionist is part of the job. The last step was an online test and filling out a background check form.
- I had to say if I agreed or disagreed with 143 statements.
- For the 'would I rather' questions, I had to pick between two options like reading a book or teaching shark-diving.
- I was given a multiple choice math test with hard algebra, trig, and calculus questions.
IT Technician
After applying online, I had an initial call from HR to set up a phone interview with the IT department leads. This call was pretty laid-back, and we chatted about my background, got a quick rundown of the job, and learned a bit about Kitchell. Then, about a week later, I went in for an in-person interview with the IT department leads and another IT Tech. It was still super friendly and conversational, covering my experience, what the day-to-day would look like, and the Kitchell company culture. They threw in a couple of basic technical questions, but it was really clear they cared most about how I'd fit in with the team.
