Kit and Ace Interview Questions
& Process

The interview process was three parts and all of the interviewers were very welcoming and easy going. First was 45 minutes (virtual call), second 30 minutes (virtual call) and the third 30 minutes (in-person). Standard questions about why you'd like to work for the brand and your prior experience.

I went through two rounds of interviews. The first was in person at their Cow Hollow store with the regional manager. It's located in an alley on Fillmore by Real Food, across from Fredericksen Hardware, which I thought was a random spot. I felt both at ease and nervous immediately. The manager was very warm and had her stuff together. She asked questions like, 'What does integrity mean to you?', 'Who's influencing San Francisco people?', and 'What is the difference between a leader and a boss?'. She also asked follow-up questions if she felt my answers weren't sufficient, which made me sweat! After the interview, she gave me 10 minutes for my questions, and I left feeling really inspired and wanting to work for the company. It was a tough but flowing conversation, and she's someone I'd want to work for and felt I could learn a lot from. My second interview was over Skype with someone in marketing for North America who reports to the founder. I was surprised someone so high up was interviewing me, but it shows the company is still small and growing, which I like. She was in a sports bra and interviewed from bed, which set a fun and relaxed tone. She didn't ask me many questions; we mostly talked about her role and what she does. Her background is impressive, her job sounds fun, and they have big budgets, which is a nice change from the start-up world. I felt excited about the opportunity after both interviews, despite the very different interactions.

The recruiter reached out to schedule a chat over Skype. The interview began with the recruiter 'setting the intention,' which meant she explained the interview's format, duration, and the overall process. I thought this was helpful because it gave me an idea of what to expect and helped me relax. The recruiter was professional but also warm and friendly. I was asked about my career path, my interest in the role, and then answered a few more questions. Near the end, the interviewer shared more about Kit and Ace and their future vision. The conversation lasted about 30 minutes.

It was a super long and messy interview process. I had 4 interviews over a month and a half, which is a lot for a job that isn't even salaried. Everyone I talked to was really nice and easygoing, but I ended up deciding not to move forward because the interview process just seemed like too many warning signs to me.
