Analytical Chemist
It was okay. It was straightforward and a video call on zoom so at least i didn’t have to travel all the way there. I knew how to prepare and was asked a few questions related to the role.
- Do you have other interviews lined up?
- What makes you a good candidate if you've faced rejections elsewhere?
Engineering
The coordinator was great on the phone but not so much via email, making scheduling tough. We finally set up an in-person interview, but on the day, I found out she'd scheduled a Zoom call for someone else without telling me, which was awkward since I had a part-time job and couldn't make it. My in-person interview was several hours, including a tour and four blocks with people from different departments. Some took it seriously, others went off on unprofessional tangents. The tour showed unmaintained areas, and my interview room had bad HVAC, making me sweaty. I also saw someone ignore signs to not enter a restricted area. They apparently do town halls in a shared space with another company, which seems questionable for confidential info. After the interview, the invite for the post-interview call had no time frame, leading to confusion about how long we'd talked. I also saw my resume was changed significantly with added locations, shortened experience, and an added master's degree. The company went silent for a month before sending an automated rejection. The whole process involved a lot of back and forth, took six hours of driving, and required paying for a hotel upfront to be reimbursed.
- Tell me about a time you had to work with a difficult coworker.
- Describe how you handle juggling competing priorities.
Lab Manager
I had a friendly panel interview with a group of interviewers. The interview was onsite and included some out-of-the-box questions designed to test analytical and problem-solving skills. My recruiter got back to me within a day or two after the interview.
- Describe a challenge you encountered and how you successfully navigated it.
HR Generalist
The interview process was super long. I first spoke with the Hiring Manager in mid-December 2023. Then, I had another chat with the Recruiter in February 2024. Near the end of March, I did a 2-hour panel interview with 7 team members and then interviewed with the VP of HR. A week after that, they told me they decided to go in a different direction and wouldn't fill the position at all. When I asked for feedback, they said I interviewed great and they had nothing but positive things to say about my experience. The decision not to fill the role was because the department's direction changed. I wasn't mad about not getting an offer, but it was weird that after such a long and intense interview process, the only feedback was that the department still wasn't sure what they wanted. It felt like I wasted a lot of time and they weren't as serious about hiring someone as I was about starting a new job. I also kind of wondered if they were just looking for new ideas from candidates without really intending to offer a job. They asked a lot about strategy, employee relations, and engagement.
- Can you describe any innovative ideas you introduced that changed the organizational structure?
- Tell me about innovative concepts you introduced to the team that reshaped the organization's structure.
