First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Killeen Independent School District.
Secretary
I had a great interview experience. I met directly with the school principal. Because my kids go to this school, I already knew everyone in the office. We talked about my resume and how my past work experience fit the duties I'd be doing.
- Tell me about a time you had to prioritize competing demands, like a ringing phone, an urgent email, and a visitor at the same time.
- Given a scenario with a ringing phone, an important email, and a parent arriving at the same time, how would you manage these tasks?
Technology Support Specialist
Got notified about two months after applying to do an online interview using Hirevue, which I thought was a cool tool for an initial interview, much better than a phone call. About two weeks later, I was told to come in the next day for an in-person interview. It was with people from each team a CTSS works with, and they each asked one question. Then the principal asked some more specific questions from the school's viewpoint. It was a pretty good interview experience overall. There was also a written part with scenario-based questions to type out.
- How do you plan to lead professional development for staff and teachers?
Instructional Technologist
First there was a computer test to check my tech and teaching skills. It had questions from easy fixes to complex teaching situations, mostly multiple choice with a few short answers. After that, I had a round table interview with the CTO and about 8-10 principals. They asked about 10 questions, principals asked instructional ones, CTO asked tech ones. These questions were pretty tough if you don't know tech and instruction well.
- In what ways can technology be used to enhance student and teacher instruction and education?
Maintenance Buildings and Grounds
Applying online is the best way, then follow up at the personnel office. Check the board for job listings. Remember they will also fill positions from within, not just off the street hires. Include all your license information, but do not list the license numbers. Have copies to show at the interview.
- Do you know your abilities, the rules, and the law concerning your job?
- Are you prepared to uphold the law and rules?
- Be aware that expressing views on gun rights or individual responsibility might not align with the employer's liberal perspective.
