I applied online and then an HR rep from out of state emailed me. We had a good conversation and she decided to move me forward to a panel interview. It turned out to be an interview with the hiring manager and it immediately went into a technical interview. I was surprised by this, so it took me a couple of questions to get back on track. The hiring manager could really use some training on how to conduct an interview, especially since I've done hundreds myself. They didn't ask clarifying questions, didn't ask follow-up questions, and were unwilling to answer my clarifying questions.
