I applied online and got a referral from someone who works there. First, I had a phone interview, and then there were two more video interviews. They gave me an offer, but it was conditional on passing a background check. So, I had to do a full background investigation, FBI fingerprinting, and all that. The whole background check process, from when it started until I heard back that everything was cleared, took about three months. But, this might not be the same for everybody.

The hiring process is quite slow and doesn't seem to progress much. The recruiters and the first few interviews go smoothly. However, once the background check phase begins, you're on their schedule. It doesn't matter if you're currently employed; they actually expect you to keep working your regular job. But then, they expect you to drop everything for their interview to determine if you're a good fit.

The interview process started with a phone call, followed by a three-week training period. Then there was field training with another investigator. After that, a reviewer would nitpick every line of your reports for minor typos, sending them back for corrections 2-3 times, even if it wasn't your fault. You also had to deal with managers who didn't understand or care about you being overworked.
