The interview process was pretty extensive, taking about three months from when I applied to when I got the offer. It started with a quick phone call, then I had two in-person interviews. The first in-person was a whole half-day thing with different teams and people, and the last one was a lunch interview.
- Do you have experience using project management software?
Administrative Assistant
I met with a group of people for about 45 minutes. They asked me a lot of questions about my past experiences and how they align with the job. They also gave a detailed explanation of what the job involves. After that, they checked my references really fast.
- Tell me about a time you had to handle a difficult person.
Assistant Director
Typical in higher ed - a screening interview, then a half-to-full day second interview with a number of committees. Overall, fairly standard, but less professional than at other institutions, e.g. heard personal criticisms voiced about me from someone who had their microphone un-muted. Kenyon seems a closed ecosystem and if you're not an alum, you'll be at a disadvantage. I get the sense that they'd rather hire an alum with significantly less professional experience than not, perhaps to keep the ecosystem intact.
- What are your thoughts on what de-colonizing Europe might entail?
- Can you describe your approach to building rapport and trust with students?
- How do you manage and respond to day-to-day crises?
Conference Specialist
I had an informal interview with Barbara, who was really nice and kind. She asked a bunch of questions about what I liked about Kenyon, the summer programs, how I could improve them, and how I could contribute. Barbara was super open and understanding, and it was clear she really cares about her job and the people who work there, which made the interview pretty easy. It wasn't a tough interview at all; they mainly just wanted to see if I'm a hard worker who can collaborate well with a team.
- What makes you want to work here?
- Were you part of any Kenyon summer programs?
- What value would you bring to this position?
