First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Kentucky Cabinet for Health & Family Services.
Family Support Specialist
It took about one to two weeks from applying to getting an interview invite. The interview was a panel with three supervisors from different locations. They were friendly, and despite my nerves, they didn't make it worse. They asked about 7-8 questions each, taking notes. At the end, they mentioned it could be 6-8 weeks before hearing back, and that the final decision comes from Frankfort. They asked if I had any questions. I also had to take a 5-question math test.
- Can you give an example of a difficult client or customer you encountered and how you handled it?
- Tell me about a time you were stressed about a deadline and how you handled it.
- Describe an instance where you encountered racism in your family, home, school, or work, and how you dealt with it.

I sent in my application online and was contacted via email. They said I was selected for the interview pool and asked me to call to schedule an interview. I called to set it up. About a week later, I received another email asking to reschedule. I decided to wear business casual attire for the interview. I met with three supervisors who took turns asking me questions. They also gave me the chance to ask them questions and provided more details if I needed them.
- Can you describe a situation where you encountered a difficult individual and explain your approach to managing that interaction, including your specific actions and words, and the resulting outcomes for everyone involved?
- Looking back, did the situation turn out as you anticipated, and if not, what alternative approaches might have led to a better resolution?
Family Support Specialist
I sat at a table with three employers who did most of the talking while I just listened. They told me a bit about the job and said I'd need to answer four questions while they took notes. They also mentioned I'd get an email or call to let me know if I was hired or not, but I never received one. I was surprised by the questions, which didn't seem to directly relate to the job, and I was a little flustered. They didn't ask about my experience with things like Microsoft, answering phones, customer service, computers, or typing. I know the questions have a purpose, but I don't think I should have been judged solely on my answers. I really wanted the job and was disappointed they didn't even tell me I wasn't chosen. I suspect they already had someone else in mind and I was just a formality.
- What's your approach to handling multiple tasks simultaneously?
- Can you describe an instance where a customer was rude to you and explain how you handled it?
Family Support Specialist
it is a very political hiring process, it is all in who you know. you post an app or resume for an immediate fill class job and they will pull a registry of all listed applicants, once this is done, they will decide who to interview from this list. after interviews, interviewing teams recommendations are sent to frankfort who will then make the final selection
- What would you do in this situation... (behavioral)
