So, the interview had 2 technical rounds, and then a final HR round. The tech part was about solving problems, coding, and talking about past projects. The HR part was more about how I communicate, work with others, and if I'd fit in. It felt like they checked both my tech skills and my personality.

KCG's interview process was pretty disorganized and they were bad at staying in touch. They missed scheduled calls, postponed my interview last minute, and after it was done, didn't reach out for weeks until I contacted them. The interview was kinda weird, mostly done via telepresence video chat. I was at one of their small offices, but spent most of the day talking to people at their main office. It's not necessarily a bad thing (saves travel), but still a bit strange. The office felt quiet, and I got the impression people mostly work alone. One interviewer even privately advised me against KCG, but obviously asked me to keep it quiet. I ended up declining their offer before finding a better fit. Hopefully, they improve their process.

So after chatting with HR first, they sent me this take-home assignment, like homework. It was four pages long with a bunch of different types of exercises. You had SQL stuff, some bash scripting, a quick questionnaire about admin things, and then implementing a tree-walking algorithm, preferably in Python. They said to expect to spend a few evenings on it. They didn't say if you could use resources like Google or not, so I didn't, to give them a real sense of what I know. Looking back, I probably should have, Google has some good pointers.

So I had a bad interview experience. It was 4 rounds. First round, they gave me a program to code and I had no idea how to do it. The interviewer didn't help, just stayed silent. Second round was kinda alright. Then the 3rd round, I met the rudest interviewer ever. He came with C++ questions and even when I told him I don't know C++ and I'm great at Java, he kept going with C++. He mocked me for getting them wrong. I wish I could have asked him Java questions. The fourth round was good though.
