First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Karl Strauss.
Human Resources
Applied via LinkedIn, and had an initial phone chat with a recruiter. They asked me some basic stuff about my history and my reasons for wanting this role. I followed up later, but it took 3 months to hear back.
- What makes you want to work in HR?
Manager
The interview process was standard. It included an HR phone screen, a 1:1 with the recruiting manager, and a 1:1 with the regional manager. This was followed by a 'day on the job' interview where I worked through tasks with the GM. Everyone was very friendly and easy to talk to. The interviews felt more like casual conversations to get to know each other rather than a Q&A session. I didn't feel pressured to answer questions in a specific 'right' or 'wrong' way.

Sales Representative
I applied online and then got a call and email from HR to set up an interview. The phone interview was pretty standard, just conversational stuff. After that, I had an in-person interview where they asked me situation-based questions and also some questions about my goals and getting to know me. It wasn't too stressful.
- Can you list your top 5 favorite beers?
Server
I went through three interviews, each conducted by a different manager. I got a call back with an offer the day after my final interview. Orientation took place two days after that. They hired me as a host since I don't have prior server experience.
- How do you define hospitality?
