Karat Interview Questions
& Process

The interview process was very methodical. First, the Karat Interviewer guided me through the process and explained the Karat portal. My interview was divided into three parts. After the Interviewer explained all three parts, I could ask questions. I'll list the three questions below. I've moved on to the next interview stage and am still in the process.

The interview process was well structured, an interview guide was shared early enough so I could prepare for the interview. I had the chance to schedule the interview at the time that was suitable for me. My interviewer was amazing, kept a very positive energy and a smile on his face through the process, always reached out for support. He's the best, well trained and professional interviewer.

My interview experience with Karat, which started in July 2025, was really disappointing. I got through two rounds okay, but then they said the team was going on vacation for a week and we'd talk after. When they got back, the recruiter said the hiring manager was out for another week, causing more delays. This went on for a month with no updates, and then I got an email saying they weren't hiring for that role anymore because they reassessed. It felt like a month of my time was wasted. Then, surprisingly, they reopened the position a month later. I reached out again, and they said they were looking for different experience, even though the hiring manager had previously said I was a good fit and matched the job description. I was even set up for the next round with the hiring manager's boss before their vacation. This whole thing was a huge waste of my time and energy. They were unclear about what they wanted, going from calling me a great fit to suddenly needing someone different, which wasn't professional. The recruiters didn't communicate well either; I had to constantly chase them for updates. I'd be careful with this company; their process isn't transparent and they don't seem to respect candidates' time. My advice to management: communicate better, be clear about expectations, and value candidates' time.

So first, I had this Karat Qualify, which was like a 15 min offline test. It was all MCQs and I could pick between backend, general coding logic, or algorithms & data structures. After passing that, I got an invite right away to set up the next interview. Then came the Karat Core, which was an online live video thing, lasted for 60 mins. They covered system design discussion/analysis and live coding for data structures & algorithms. This technical interview was pretty chill, I could schedule it whenever I wanted. And the best part, if I felt it didn't go well, I could get a redo. So I booked my first attempt pretty soon after scheduling, so I could do a redo quickly if needed.
