First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Kapow.
Marketing
The interview process started with a call with HR and a Wonderlic test. Then I had a call with the hiring manager and then had to do the Wonderlic test again on a video conference to make sure it was me doing the test. I was then set up for an in-person with 4 or 5 different people - some in office and some on video. The interview questions varied depending on person but there were no big stumpers or trick questions. The office is beautiful and the HR individual was very nice throughout the process but ultimately I got turned down. The process seemed fair and I felt like I was treated respectfully throughout. I also appreciated that the HR person did let me know pretty quickly that I hadn’t got the job instead of just ghosting me.
- What do you know about Kapow?
Account Manager
The interviewer started our phone interview by telling me about Kapow. Everything she went over, I had already been able to find during my research. She then asked me a couple questions about my resume. After I answered them, she asked me about my customer versus client experience. I answered to the best of my ability, telling her my experience maintaining various professional relationships and other matching qualifications with the job description. Her next question, however, was 'Do you have any questions for me?' I was surprised she was ending the call so quickly, and that she had not explained her previous question, I tried to save the interview, but as she answered each question, I could tell she was trying to end our call. Overall, this was a brief and confusing phone call. I had put in a lot of time researching this company, and I had been following their blog and website for a few months prior to moving to Chicago. I respect that she may have had hesitations or may have seen a red flag, but it would have been nice to receive feedback or at least a clearer conversation.
- Tell me about your job at _______.
- You have experience working with customers, but not clients?
Software Engineer
I met with different people from two departments who asked some good questions. I think they were mostly trying to figure out if I'd fit into the company culture. The office itself is really nice, very open, and the employees seemed like they got along well and were friendly. Everyone I spoke to seemed open and relaxed, though they were clearly busy and under some pressure, which I guess is pretty normal for software companies. This place had big layoffs about a year ago because they changed their business model, so I imagine that affects the vibe, but the people who are still there are probably the ones who really need to be there.
- Describe a past challenge you encountered while managing an employee.
Partnership Manager
The initial screening was pretty standard. The interview itself though was a bit weird. The person I met with started off by mentioning how tired she was from traveling and seemed to lack enthusiasm. She asked me questions straight out of a "how to" guide for interviews, and I found them challenging because they didn't seem relevant to the Partnership Manager role. To top it off, she even took a phone call during our chat. It was a struggle to get through this interview.
- Can you describe a challenging situation you encountered and how you resolved it?
