Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Kao Corporation.
Manager
You can prepare to talk about your product knowledge and show examples of your past work that are relevant to the role. The interview isn't too hard, and the interviewer is pretty nice. It’s good if your explanations are clear and make sense. Having certificates or experience to back it up would be a plus.
- Tell me about a time you proactively involved others in a significant task or problem, and successfully led them to the desired outcome.
Innovation Manager
The interview scheduling with HR and the hiring manager was prompt. However, the role's expectations were unclear. The hiring manager indicated I was a strong candidate and mentioned subsequent interviews with the team to assess mutual fit. Unfortunately, I did not receive further communication. It was strange because I was told I was a good fit, but then I was ghosted. I noticed they reacted oddly to my shorter tenures at past companies compared to their longer stays at Kao. I'd advise being ready to address this, as it seems to be a point of judgment. It appears they don't fully grasp that the industry landscape varies significantly in different regions, particularly in Los Angeles, which operates quite differently.
- Explain your shorter tenure at previous companies.
- Address the differences in industry norms between Los Angeles and here, and how that relates to your career progression.
Assistant Manager
It took about 1-2 months after applying for them to reach out for an interview. The interview process itself was quite long and involved a lot of behavioral questions. You should also be prepared for situational questions. They are looking for someone who is willing to put in extra effort for the company, though I don't think their offer reflects that demand. The team seems like a nice and close-knit group.
- Are you willing to work overtime?
