First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Kalitta Air.
Office Assistant
The interview experience was pretty standard. It was a really comfortable atmosphere. All the people I met were super nice. My advice is to dress well, just be yourself, and answer everything truthfully. This was a long time ago, so things might be different now.
- Can you start by telling me a bit about yourself?
ULD Coordinator
Applied online via Kalitta Careers. First, I had an initial call from Kalitta HR about 4 weeks after applying. We talked about my interest in the position and a quick overview of my background and how it fit. Then, I got a call from the hiring manager to go over the role in more detail. I elaborated on my background and how it would transfer easily (heavy aviation background). They asked some basic hiring questions like strengths/weaknesses and what Kalitta does. After that, there was a panel interview with 5 people from Kalitta Air (hiring manager, HR, Senior ULD Coordinator, Charter Sales Manager, and the current ULD Coordinator). I got the offer letter via email a week after the panel interview. It didn't have a start or end date, just a base salary of $40,000 USD, with basic 401K and benefits. Apparently, small raises come every 3 years.
- What is your knowledge regarding ULD?
Sales
The process was really quick and the person I spoke with was friendly. It started with a text message, then I had an online interview. They asked me about selling and customer service. It's a good idea to read the job posting carefully before the interview and to be confident. They seem to really care about people skills and selling skills, so definitely focus on what they mention in the posting. Overall, it was a very pleasant and easy experience. Just be confident.
- What is your availability?
- Tell me about how you approach sales.
- How do you handle communication?
Human Resources
Had an initial interview, then some informal chats. People in hr seemed decent. Got a written offer, but when I asked to discuss salary, they rescinded the offer. Mind blown. Disappointed at first, but then relieved. Working with them would have led to bigger problems because they are sensitive. Company might be okay, but I'd avoid working in hr here. This post identifies me, but hopefully it helps others and me in the future with similar situations at other companies where people speak out.
- Tell us a joke.
