First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Kaleyra.
Software Engineer
I had previously worked at Kaleyra but left due to compensation. Still, I liked the growth there and decided to reapply with a referral from my manager. HR first talked about my current and past Kaleyra experience and my salary expectations for the staff engineer position. Then they set up three interview rounds: a technical round with a senior colleague, which I passed, and another technical round with a Senior Architect, which I also passed. The third round was with the Director, which got delayed by two weeks. This round was about leadership and salary. Even with my previous Kaleyra experience, they only offered a 25% salary increase on my current CTC, which wasn't right for a staff engineer. I asked for a change, but HR didn't follow up. When I reached out a week later, I found out they had paused my application because of the Tata Communication acquisition. If the interviews had been on time, I probably would have gotten the offer, but now there's been no call. It's frustrating because candidates put in a lot of time and effort, even taking leave for interviews. This kind of thing makes you lose trust.
- Can you list all Redis methods with O(1) time complexity?
- Could you explain the Go programming language life cycle?
- What value do you believe you bring to this role?
Scrum Master
3 rounds of interview. First round is a technical/functional screening on Scrum experience, processes, and techniques. The second round is with the manager, who will assess your experience with challenges, team management, and confidence. The third round is with the VP of Engineering, who will give a formal introduction to the company's roadmap, mission, and vision, and then discuss current team challenges and how you would resolve them (scenario questions).
- Can you describe the Scrum Process?
- Tell me about the teams you have handled.
- What techniques do you use?
Site Reliability Engineer
This was a terrible interview experience. The recruiter emailed me saying I was a good candidate, but then the interviewer was late and didn't talk about the company at all. After just five minutes, the interviewer told me I wasn't a good fit and asked if they were wrong. Even though the interviewer was looking at their screen and seemed irritated when I asked them to repeat a question because of a bad microphone, they told me after 15 minutes of a planned 45-minute interview that I wasn't a good match based on my previous work experience, which was already in my CV. I'm really disappointed because the recruiter said I lacked technical competence after looking at my past positions.
- Could you tell me about the companies you've worked for previously?
Software Specialist
So first, HR talked about the pay and what they're looking for. Then, there were 3 rounds of interviews. The first was a coding challenge focusing on data structures and algorithms. The second involved talking about the specific programming language and technologies used. The third round was with the Engineering Manager, where we went over my resume, talked about past projects, the role itself, and design details.
- What are your skills in Data Structures and Algorithms?
- Can you discuss Computer Science concepts?
- Tell me about your experience with system designs.
