First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at KaBOOM!.
Recruitment Manager
I had a phone screen with HR, then a virtual chat with the hiring manager. After that, there were check-ins with HR, and then no further communication. Neither conversation seemed very structured, and it wasn't clear what kind of candidate they were really looking for.
- Can you discuss your experience in relation to this position?
Communications Manager
Had a first phone screen with HR, then a zoom interview with the comms director. After that, there was a group zoom interview with the comms team. The first two interviews went really well, but the third one was super awkward because the group didn't seem prepared to interview me. They never even followed up after that last interview to let me know if I got the job or not, which was pretty rude.

Client Services Coordinator
I was really keen on joining KaBOOM! and sent my resume to their general HR email, but didn't hear back. I decided to keep trying and found the emails of two directors in the department I was aiming for. I started sending them more personalized cover letters and my resume. After a few months, HR called me for a screening interview. It was pretty basic, and about two weeks later, I was invited back for a second round interview. That also seemed to go well, but then I had to wait about four weeks for any news. I was asked back a second time to meet the department director, and two weeks after that, I got offered the full-time job. The whole thing took more than two months. I was super happy to get the offer, but man, it was a long and draining process.
- How well do you handle working under pressure?
- How effective are you at communicating with people you'll only interact with via phone?
- What's your approach to finding communities that are lacking resources?
Software Developer
So, I applied for an entry-level position and they had a phone interview that went for about an hour. Then there was a second chat interview, also an hour long. The next stage was supposed to be a face-to-face with a panel, but I didn't get to that round. It's crazy how many steps they have for a role that pays so little. They also didn't even bother to let me know I didn't make it to the third round.
- Could you describe a staff gathering you would organize?
