First, I had a phone call, then we met in person at HQ for an interview with the two head K9 Training managers and the head of K9 Training overall.

It was a panel interview and it wasn't that organized. A lot of managers were trying to ask me questions all at once. They couldn't really explain the job duties when I asked them because they were from different parts of the company.

My interview process was on the phone with a very generic HR rep who wasn't a trainer. The interview was pretty basic, but when asked about the company, there was hesitation. I answered honestly and was emailed an offer for an unpaid 3-hour shadow interview to check our fit. Given my experience, this would've been easy, but the unpaid nature was sketchy since my previous company paid for such. The next day, I researched the company and found many red flags. It started as a family-owned business with a great mission, but was bought by politician Rory Diamond in Florida, who used it for personal gain. This caused company turmoil, and he fired the original founder and her son. The San Antonio location claimed non-profit status but asked the city for over $2 million for its facility, confusing the city council. News and media videos about this can be found on Google. The unreal amount of sketchy practices led me to decline the offer. The interview felt fake; I would have preferred talking to an actual trainer for honest feedback about the company's history. I hope they can get back on mission someday.
