Application Analyst
We had a talk about myself, why I'm interested in the company, and what skills I have. I was also asked for an example of working under a tight deadline and how I'd manage this part-time role with other responsibilities.
- Can you tell me about yourself, why you're interested in our company, and what skills you possess?
- Describe a situation where you had to work under a very strict deadline.
- How do you plan to balance this part-time role with your existing responsibilities?
Operations Analyst
It was an online interview with one person. They emailed me a scenario beforehand and gave me 45 minutes to analyze it and prepare a presentation. It was a bit tough because the problem wasn't very clear. After the presentation, they asked some usual questions like why I wanted the job.
- What motivates you to apply for this position?
Software Engineer
First, you'll submit your resume, portfolio, and maybe a cover letter, and they'll check your skills. Then, there's a quick 15-30 minute recruiter call to chat about the role, your experience, and see if you're a fit. After that, you might do an online technical test with algorithm problems, or maybe a live coding session with an engineer that lasts about 45-60 minutes covering algorithms, data structures, and maybe some system design. The main event is the on-site, which can be multiple rounds in one day or split up. You'll do coding interviews with tougher problems, system design where you'll architect something, behavioral questions using the STAR method to see how you work with others, and maybe a round focused on specific tech if it's relevant. Finally, you'll have a chat with HR or the hiring manager about the offer, team, and growth, which could be another light behavioral chat. Then comes the offer, where you discuss salary, equity, benefits, and start date, and they might do a background or reference check.
- Could you reverse a linked list for me?
Generalist
I checked out the podcast with the founder, which was super inspiring. I loved how Jumpstart shifts power dynamics and connects grads with startups. I saw a lot of positive experiences shared here, so I went in with high expectations for the interview. But honestly, I had the opposite experience. The interviewer wasn’t welcoming at all. It felt like she didn’t want to be there at all. Really not the energy I expected. I asked her about Jumpstart, and only got the bare minimum responses and dismissive shrugs. When I asked what happens to the 30% who don’t get offers and how long the 70% who do actually stay, she responded like she couldn’t be bothered.
- Am I still waiting for the result?
