& Process

The whole thing took about an hour, with the senior manager and a senior advisor. Before we started, I had to fill out a form and a survey. They asked me questions about whether I planned to study, get married, or have kids, if I owned a car, and where I lived – apparently, the reasons for these questions would only make sense later on. The Senior Manager was pretty chill about my incomplete degree, saying they weren't interested in why I didn't finish it, just what skills I had and if I could help the team. I mentioned my salary expectations, and they pointed out that not having a degree would limit how much they could offer. The job I initially applied for required Japanese language skills, and they tested my fluency by asking me to introduce myself in Japanese as per the recruitment sheet. My Japanese wasn't quite up to par for that role, but they offered me a different position, Travel Consultant, instead. I said I was interested, and that was that. They were nice and professional throughout.

There were about 3 to 4 rounds of interviews. Initially, the interviews focused on assessing your fit with the company. After that, you'd be transferred to the specific department you were being considered for, and then you'd interview with that department's manager. All of my interviews were conducted in Japanese.

We started with a general chat and some problem-solving scenarios. First, I introduced myself and my background. Then, I explained why I'm a great fit for the job. After that, we went over some tricky situations involving hotels and how bookings work. The first part was with HR, and the second was with my potential supervisor and manager.

There was one interview session with two interviewers: the HR manager and the department manager. The HR manager asked mostly behavioral and background questions. The department manager interviewed me in both English and Japanese because the position requires Japanese language skills.
