First, they look at your resume to see if you have the technical skills for the role, good grades, and practical experience like projects, internships, or contests. Having applied experience is better than just theory. Then, there's an online test that covers logical thinking, basic aptitude, and core subject knowledge. It's not meant to be tricky, just to see if you can think clearly and use basics under pressure. After that, a technical interview usually happens. Here, they'll ask about your projects, your understanding of key subjects for the role, and how you break down problems. They want to make sure you actually know how your projects work, not just that you put them on paper. Lastly, the HR or manager interview is about your personality, how you communicate, your motivation, and if you'd fit into the company culture. They want to know if you can work with others, learn and adapt quickly, take ownership, and stay humble while growing fast. Essentially, they're not just looking for the smartest person, but for someone who's practical, reliable, and keen to develop in a real work setting.

This was an on-campus internship opportunity. Everyone who submitted their resume got to take a test. There were two rounds of tests. The test included some questions about core metallurgy (my specific area) and also some general logical reasoning questions. After the tests, there was an interview round. Before the personal interview, we had a 10-minute group discussion (GD) on a topic.

I went through a Group Discussion round. There were about 5-8 other applicants in the meeting with me. The interviewer first asked some individual questions to each person and then we had a group discussion. The personal questions took about 5 mins each, and the group discussion part was about 20 mins long.
