First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at JoVE.
Science Outreach Specialist
The whole job selection process consisted of an interview by a recruiter, then a team leader and lastly an assignment where you need to record a presentation on a given topic. The interview process overall was friendly and cordial. The presentation was regarding how you can communicate with customers and convince them to use digital media.
- Why are you interested in science outreach and Jove?
- What are your salary expectations?
Customer Success Specialist
The interview was very rushed, only 20 minutes long, but they asked me over 10 questions, considering the intro about the role, their questions, and my answers. Weeks later, I still haven't heard back. They asked about monitoring indicators from a college pre-apprenticeship, which isn't common practice culturally. I felt a big disconnect between their expectations and cultural reality.
- What is your understanding of customer success?
- Were you familiar with jove before this?
- Have you ever been involved in teaching or giving lessons?
Sales Representative
Zoom session with two hiring managers. The questions were typical, but I was pushed to reveal too much detail on why I left my last company. In looking back on it I felt a little bullied. Two on one firing off questions must be done with care or it is off putting. I have not heard back and have not reached out to learn more about why I am not their ideal candidate as I have had incredible success in this space as a high achiever always exceeding quota. Should they reach out, I will choose to not move forward.
- Can you tell me about the management changes at your previous company that prompted your departure?
Sales Development Representative
The interview started 15 minutes late without any explanation. Near the end, as I was hoping to ask some questions, a timer went off in the background and they abruptly ended the call. The interview felt rushed, I was constantly interrupted making it hard to fully answer questions. I didn't get to discuss the job responsibilities, team dynamics, or company expectations, and it felt very focused on the employee. They tried to negotiate salary really early on, within the first ten minutes, which seemed too soon. I decided to withdraw my application after this.
- Can you tell me about why you left each of your previous jobs?
- Who did you work with in your previous roles?
- What is your daily call volume?
