First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Jordan & Skala Engineers.
Electrical Engineer
I applied via the UT School Portal and a recruiter contacted me. It was a pretty chill behavioral interview, very conversational, and lasted about an hour. The recruiter gave an overview of the company, what they do, and the pay.
- What motivated you to study Electrical Engineering?
Co-op Engineer
He started by introducing himself and what he does there, then explained what JSE does. Then he asked really simple and basic questions like 'tell us about yourself,' 'why you choose your major,' all that, 'what part you enjoy most in your major,' and 'what you do outside the college and class.' And that was it.
- What prompted your choice of major?
MEP Engineer
It was a thorough interview, really a good mix of talking about my background and also getting a feel for my personality. We had a nice chat where I got to know the interviewers and they got to know me, and I shared where I see myself going professionally.
- Can you share an instance where you had to challenge a decision made by someone in a higher position than you, and explain how you managed that situation?
Sustainability Project Coordinator
I spoke with the senior sustainability manager, and it wasn't a pleasant conversation at all. Even though I was qualified, they wanted to quiz me on details not relevant to the job, criticized my resume, and then lectured me on salary negotiation. It left a bad impression, and I noticed a lack of diversity on their executive board, making me feel it's an old boys' club. The interviewer was vague about the hiring process, didn't allow me to ask questions, and cut me off when I tried, ending the call abruptly. I wouldn't reapply because of this experience.
- Are you familiar with the type of engineering firm Jordan and Skala is?
- Could you tell me your salary expectations for this position?
