First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Johnson Outdoors.
Graphic Designer
So I had this initial virtual chat with HR. Then, a marketing manager wanted to talk to me virtually too. After that, it was an in-person session that lasted about 2 hours. I met with another HR person and four marketing folks. The very last step was another virtual interview, this time with a Marketing manager. I ended up not getting an offer, which was a bummer. Honestly, it felt like a long drawn-out process with way too many interviews, and they kept asking pretty much the same things over and over.
- How do others perceive you?
- Can you tell me about a marketing campaign you were involved in?
- Have you designed for different brands before?
Customer Service Representative
It was SOOO unorganized. I applied and they called me for a supposed 'phone screening' which was basically an impromptu interview. They said I did well and wanted to do an 'official phone interview,' but they just asked me the exact same questions as before. Then, they invited me for an in-person interview where, guess what, they asked me the exact same questions AGAIN. After that, I had to shadow a rep who went on about this super complex call and told me not to worry because it was overwhelming and I'd never deal with something like that. When the interviewer came back, I mentioned I was eager to learn, echoing the rep. But then they told me they weren't moving forward because I said I was 'overwhelmed,' which wasn't true. A huge waste of my time. The interviewers clearly don't pay attention, repeat questions, and seem to only half-listen to my responses.
- Why are you interested in this job?
- Tell me about yourself.
- What are your strengths and weaknesses?
Manager
It was a group interview with three supervisors and a manager. The questions were tough but fair, and it felt like they really wanted to make sure they hired the right person for the job the first time.
- What makes you qualified for this role?
Brand Manager
I got reached out to by talent acquisition and they scheduled me for a virtual interview. At the end of the interview, they asked about my availability for the following week and then told me the next steps. I sent a thank you email that day. A week later, I followed up by phone, left a message, and said if they chose someone else, I understood but would appreciate feedback. I heard nothing. I followed up again a week later by email asking for feedback and got no reply. They completely ghosted me. Then, a few months later, they reached out again asking if I wanted to interview for the same job. If this is how they treat candidates, it doesn't reflect well on the company.
- Can you describe your understanding of the commercialization process?
