It was very challenging; I had to study more on basic technical questions like what airflow is, how to explain a chiller, and what air flow rate means. The interviewer, however, provided helpful feedback and comments.

Behavioral Technical

The interview wasn't too long, about 2 hours total. It included meeting with sales team leaders and a quick chat with someone about what the day-to-day is like. The first part was basically a meet and greet with the sales leaders to see if I'd fit in. Apparently, they mostly hire from CalState who were in sales clubs. My interview was for a spot needing someone with a good technical background to understand HVAC control modules. Pro tip: if you really want the job, read 'Spin Selling' beforehand because Johnson Controls uses that sales method.

Behavioral Presentation

I talked to their campus recruiter at a career fair. Then I sent a follow-up email and thank you card. After applying online, I had a video interview. It had six questions, where four were editable and two were one-take only. This seemed to go well, as I have an in-person interview scheduled for later today.

  • Can you share an instance where you convinced someone of something?
  • Tell me about a situation where you guided a team or led a meeting.
