First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at John Snow, Inc.
Program Officer
The hiring process was quite long, spanning over 6 weeks and involving several rounds and panels. It included questions about behavior and cultural fit, as well as a written and Excel assessment. The interviewers were nice and polite. Sometimes their job descriptions were a bit unclear, so it was important to ask detailed questions to make sure the role was what I expected.
- Can you describe how you handle situations with multiple tasks that are all competing for your attention?
Communications Specialist
The interview process involved 2-3 remote interviews via Zoom with the hiring manager and another team member. This process spanned several months, with the hiring manager being quite slow to respond between interviews. It also felt like the team wasn't entirely sure about the role they were trying to fill.
- Can you share an instance where you navigated a challenging workplace situation?
Technical Lead
The interview will focus on understanding your fit with the job description and expectations. We'll explore your motivations and how you show self-initiative. We'll also assess your technical expertise, ensuring it aligns with the job expectations and project objectives. A key part will be discussing your management style, especially in a flat organization where support staff are encouraged to take initiative and make their own judgments on how to address issues.
- In a flat organizational structure, how do you envision your role and contributions?
Staff Accountant
For more senior positions, the hiring process usually goes beyond just submitting an application and having one interview. Candidates for higher roles often go through two interview rounds to show they are qualified and a good fit. These extra interviews help the hiring team really check the candidate's skills, experience, and if they can handle the job's duties. This way, the company makes sure they pick the best person for the senior job.
- Can you introduce yourself and explain why you're a good fit for this position?
