First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at John Sanfilippo & Son.
Maintenance Technician
The interview was in-depth and straightforward, covering my previous experience in the field, how well I work with others as a team member, my future goals, salary expectations, the hours I'm willing to work, and emphasizing safety first within the company.
- Can you share an instance where you encountered a challenging situation and explain how you resolved it?
Sustainability Intern
The interview process was short. After I applied, HR reached out to schedule an interview. It was a very casual and direct conversation. I spoke with the person who would be my manager, and they were very pleasant. After the interview, I chatted with the previous year's intern to help with the handover.
- What motivates your interest in the sustainability intern role?
Marketing
The interview location was confusing with two entrances, one for professionals and one for factory workers. I ended up at the factory entrance even though signs directed applicants there. I met with three people from the brand and marketing department. It was late on a Friday, and they seemed tired and unenthusiastic. The questions were difficult, and I only had about two days to prepare. The interview lasted for about 3 hours. Everyone I met seemed uptight. The office itself was dark, quiet, full of cubicles, and people didn't seem happy. They kept mentioning it was "family owned," which felt like a way of saying I wouldn't make decisions. It wasn't the right fit for me.
- Can you explain a P&L Report to me?
- Estimate the number of gas stations in the US.
- How could Fisher improve its nuts?
Accounts Payable Specialist
It was a face to face interview set up through a staffing agency for a temp to perm role. The corporate office is a large facility built in 2007. You have to enter through the employee/application entrance, which is hard to see when driving. There were groups of plant workers hanging around outside and inside the entrance, which felt a bit awkward for an office position interview. The HR staff were professional, but the waiting area felt like the unemployment office, with everyone else in jeans while I was in a suit. First, I took a seven-question basic math test (addition, subtraction, multiplication) without a calculator or timer, and filled out an employment app. Then, I took Part B of the math test with 3 decimal & percentage questions, using a calculator. Failing the math test means the interview is over. I passed, so HR gave a presentation of the company history. Afterward, I interviewed with the hiring manager for about 40 minutes, discussing my background and the position. The whole process took about an hour and ten minutes. The questions were basic, but since I had experience with newer technology, they asked about that. The hiring manager was personable but wanted direct answers. HR was more outgoing.
- Can you tell me about your previous work experiences?
- What are your software skills and how would you rate your proficiency?
- Basic math test (addition, subtraction, multiplication)
