First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at John Muir Health.
Pharmacist
I got contacted about the interview like two days after applying. It was a panel interview with the pharmacy manager and two supervisors, all of whom were pharmacists. They asked questions one by one, I think they had a list. After that, they explained what happens next. If you get through this interview, HR will call you for a second interview, but I haven't done that part yet so I can't say much about it.
- Can you introduce yourself?
- What would you say are your strengths and weaknesses?
- Describe an instance where you exceeded expectations.
Rehabilitation Aide
It started with a tour and a brief chat with a therapist who was working there. Then, I was asked to shadow an aide to see their daily tasks. I thought the interview itself wasn't great because the interviewer didn't really discuss the job role. I had to get the details about the job from the aide I shadowed. On the flip side, chatting with the current workers was a good experience. The aides showed me their work and what my responsibilities would be. They also gave me a good sense of the work environment, productivity expectations, and how busy it can get. When the aide brought me back to the interviewer, she was busy on her phone. Afterward, the interviewer just gave me her card and asked for references, then left without another word. Despite sending multiple references, I never heard back. I did get an automated rejection notice much later.
- Can you describe yourself?
- Could you tell me about yourself?
- Tell me about a past experience you've had...
Registered Nurse
It was a panel interview with multiple managers, professional development specialists, and educators. It was just me, no other interviewees. They gave a 30 minute time window for the interview. It was rapid fire questioning. They gave time at the end for me to ask questions. There were no second interviews, unlike some other competitive residencies where you do a unit level interview as well. John Muir did not require this. I got the offer the next day.
- Describe a time you dealt with a patient who was dissatisfied.
- How do you manage busy shifts while prioritizing your nursing care?
- Tell me about an instance where a patient's condition changed.
Medical Assistant
I applied on the John Muir website and they contacted me the next day. The recruiter went over the position and set up an interview. The first interview had two people; one asked about my past work and skills, the other asked clinical questions. I also had to take a 10-question test on administering medications. A few days later, a different person contacted me to schedule a second interview with HR. I also got an email asking for two previous managers to complete a survey about me. The second interview was mostly behavioral questions like "explain a time...". After that, I was offered the job. Then I had to do a background check, a physical, blood work, and a drug test, and then I was scheduled for orientation.
- Regarding injections, which one is administered at a 45-degree angle, and what medications are typically given this way?
- At what site is an injection administered at a 10-degree angle, and what type of medication is given?
