First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at John Lewis.
Store Assistant
It was a long and difficult interview process. Some employees were not helpful when I asked for directions to the interview room. The atmosphere felt a bit cliquey, and it seemed like they weren't keen on having me work there.
- Could you tell me about your favorite product available at John Lewis?
Retail Assistant
We had a group interview, it was pretty straightforward. First, we did a quick intro chat, then we were split into groups of about 4 or 5 people. Each group got a scenario with some objectives for putting on a Christmas event. We had 5 minutes to read and make notes, and then 15 minutes to discuss it as a group.
- What's your strategy for approaching customers?
Retail Assistant
We had a group interview with 7 other people applying for a temporary Christmas retail assistant role. The task was to plan a Christmas event in the store together. Four hiring team members watched us brainstorm and plan for 15 minutes. Afterward, they chatted with us for 5 minutes and asked questions. The staff were really friendly, and it felt quite informal.
- Can you plan a store Christmas event with 2 activities, 2 food and drink suggestions, and 2 products to showcase and sell?
