First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at John Lewis & Partners.
Sales Advisor
This was a group interview that included a few different tasks. You're put into big groups, usually with over 30 people. To have a good shot at getting the job, you've got to share your ideas.
- Who is John Lewis's partner?
Sales Advisor
I was invited for an interview and we started by filling out an availability form. The first part was a group task where we had to explain ourselves using 3 questions, like our favorite movie, so the assessor could get to know us. Then, there was a group activity. They gave us 3 questions and as a group, we had to come up with 5 points for each. For example, one question was about how to handle an unhappy customer in 5 steps. The main thing was to contribute and share ideas. After this, the assessors left to discuss us. When they returned, they picked the first two people they wanted to interview, clearly favoring them. Two assessors interviewed them. Then, they asked who wanted to be interviewed next, and this time there was only one assessor. I went in for my interview. My assessor was friendly, but asked so many questions that I got lost. They were using a booklet but also added their own questions. I did my best to answer. Questions covered how to approach customers, what I'd do in certain situations, my past experiences, and how I'd learn about a product. Unfortunately, I didn't get the job. It felt like they already had someone in mind they really liked, but it was a good overall experience. Hope this helps.
- How would you approach a customer while working at the sales floor?
Sales Advisor
it was really professional, all group-based, about 25 of us altogether. we were split into different groups, read about 5 scenarios and discussed what we would do as a group, and then the supervisors who were listening got asked us questions at the end questioning our choices.
