Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at John Lewis & Partners.
Sales Associate
It was a fun, quick, and thorough interview process. They asked questions that were relevant to the role and about my personal preferences regarding the store. I found it to be a unique approach to interviewing that also provided them with consumer insights. I shared my thoughts on the fashion shows, mentioning they felt a bit dated and suggesting that involving local influencers could potentially increase attendance, particularly among the Gen Z demographic.
- What are your likes and dislikes regarding the store?
Sales Associate
It was a group interview where we were asked about some scenarios and had to discuss them in the group. It was a pretty relaxed interview and easy to stand out if you answer the questions first, but make sure you let others speak and collaborate with them.
- What should you do if a customer wants to know the price of an item but your iPad is not working?
Sales Associate
I applied online and got offered an interview two weeks later. On the day, we kicked off with a group interview where we were given 5 scenarios. We had 5 minutes to prep and then 20 minutes to discuss them as a group. These scenarios tested our knowledge of the company's services and products, asking what we'd suggest to customers. After that, I had my one-on-one interview, which was pretty standard, involving a scenario question and some questions about my past experience. The interviewers were really friendly. I got the official offer about 8 days after the interview.
- Tell me about a time you exceeded expectations to help a customer.
- How do you handle situations where you need to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously?
